What does the Holy Spirit have to say about what is happening in our times? I am sure that it is vastly different than most media outlets tell us. We are citizens and ambassadors of heaven. Being such, we should live according to what is happening there, according to what God is saying about the age and not what the world and the media is saying about the age.

Embrace the Times

We need not to be afraid of the times, we should embrace them. This is the hour in which the Lord has given us to live. This is the hour the Lord has given us to reign. He has given us all the power and authority to take hold of, and possess the times. These times are ours. They were made for us to inhabit. We control the speed at which the clock turns. Therefore let us embrace our charter and press on even more.

Sometimes in the thick of life it is easy to think that “THEY” are in control, but “THEY” are not. WE ARE! We are His heirs and it is time to occupy not only the land but also the hour we have been given, the very time in which we are living.

When we learn to study Scripture by the Spirit in context we will understand it better. In doing so there is the realization that every little detail is prophetic language. It is a book that speaks. When we see how everything ties in together and points to Christ, we will understand its meaning better. This will allow us to gain greater access into the understanding of our times.

We are in God’s plan to affect our generation. We are called to affect, further, and fulfill that plan. When we understand His plan and the purpose behind it all we will not be moved by the roadblocks of life that try to discourage us. We have our vision higher and know that there is a greater purpose. In every generation there are facets of the church that feel like the new leader or regime is the antichrist and that it is the end of the world. I call this fear of the times. Our job is to impact our times so much that it actually accelerates the fulfillment of these things. The Pharisees believed that the Messiah was coming soon, but He did not come in the way that they expected. I believe that in our hour, the same misunderstanding may be occurring. Jesus is coming through His people to impact the earth and when that is complete then He will return in full view. The belief that He is coming secretly to remove His Church and judge the world is dangerous because it keeps the Church asleep. This in turn actually delays His return rather than ushering in the fulfillment of the ages.

The fruition of the times, the plan of God controls everything. The clock will only turn when He, through his people (Church), move His plan forward in the earth. Only the ones seated in heaven can truly impact the earth. (Eph 2:6) To be afraid of the times is like turning back this clock; or, more accurately, like throwing a wrench into the gears of God’s clock. The battery of His clock is His Spirit and we are the hands that tell the times, the times do not tell us! We collectively as a Body are His handy man, designed to keep it moving.

This is where is misinterpretation of Scripture occurs. We must not interpret the Scripture according to the times rather than interpreting the times according to Scripture. Paul Manwaring puts it this way: “We’ve read the Bible through the world rather than reading the world through the Bible.”

The course of the world will be overcome by the course of God when God’s people stay on course.

Then Joshua spoke to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the sons of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, ‘O sun, stand still at Gibeon, and O moon in the valley of Aijalon.’ So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, until the nation avenged themselves of their enemies. Is it not written in the book of Jashar? And the sun stopped in the middle of the sky and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day. There was no day like that before it or after it, when the LORD listened to the voice of a man; for the LORD fought for Israel. (Joshua 10:12-14)

Joshua even stopped the sun for God’s plan (v8) to prevail. The sun would set, but Joshua was not afraid. He burst forth into action and the sun stopped in the middle of the day. He literally changed the direction of the times in which he was living. This is one of and if not the most powerful supernatural event that happens in nature. The red sea and the flood were right up there, too. He actually stopped not only the rotation of the earth but that of the solar system as well, it seems, for God to fulfill the times in that hour.

The Hour of Habitation

Jesus came to the earth at the appropriate time according to His Father’s determination. This was the hour for the earth, especially the people of Israel to actually have face to face encounters and walk hand in hand with the Son of Man. Upon the triumphal entry into Jerusalem, the City of David in whom the Son of David was proceeding, Jesus knew that they would miss  both the prophetic implications and fulfillment of the significance of the times which had now descended upon them.

When He approached Jerusalem, He saw the city and wept over it, saying, ‘If you had known in this day, even you, the things which make for peace! But now they have been hidden from your eyes. For the days will come upon you when your enemies will throw up a barricade against you, and surround you and hem you in on every side, and they will level you to the ground and your children within you, and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.’ (Luke 19:41-44)

They were the ones privileged enough to be alive on the earth at this critical moment in eternal history. They were alive when God visited the earth, and they missed it! We, in turn, are the one to be alive on the earth when God inhabits His people; Let us not miss it!

Times and Seasons

The Pharisees and Sadducees came up, and testing Jesus, they asked Him to show them a sign from heaven. But He replied to them, ‘When it is evening, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’ And in the morning, ‘There will be a storm today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Do you know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but cannot discern the signs of the times? An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and a sign will not be given it, except the sign of Jonah.’ And He left them and went away. (Matthew 16:1-4)

Wow! Jesus rebuked them for being able to figure out the weather and not the signs of the times! This was written over 2000 years ago, and even with all the technology we have today, we still joke about the inaccuracy of weather forecasters. Jesus rebukes them because their weather forecast were better than their prophetic forecast.

The sun and moon in Scripture often represent times and seasons.

It will come about after this that I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; and your sons and daughters prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on the male and female servants I will pour out My Spirit in those days. I will display wonders in the sky and on the earth, blood, fire, and columns of smoke, The sun will be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the great and awesome day of the Lord. And it will come about that whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be delivered… (Joel 2:28-32a)

This is a massive prophetic declaration by the prophet Joel that all Israel knew, recognized, and were eagerly awaiting. We read about its fulfillment in Acts the second chapter when Peter stands up to explain the phenomenon of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. What a statement. He was declaring the fulfillment of a major prophecy. He ascertained the times, took hold of them, and made proper application to the era in which he live. Because of this human history was changed. This revelation steered the ship of the creation further into the direction that ultimately plots its destination.

This was spoken of long before Peter’s existence, yet he grabbed hold of it and discerned that it was destined to be entered into in his own generation. What was spoken of long ago about our generation? (Hebrews 11) What was started on an “ancient path?” Will we recognize that prophetic destiny for our age the way Peter did in his, the way all the champions of the faith did the generations before us? We must understand the times and seasons of the Lord and take hold of them. This is vital not only for our generation, but also for the generations to come. If they are to take hold of there times then we must prophesy to them by taking hold of ours!

With a foundation set in understanding our place in the times,  we will further examine Understanding the Times in which we are living. That’s the plan anyway.

And yes, I hope to cover the universe moving, star combusting, and ultra awesome Sons of Issachar.
